A Sad Goodbye

Today during church we got word that the Longfellow Park Chapel in Harvard Square was burning down.  This beautiful building has been central to the Church in Cambridge for many years and is particularly special to Logan and me because this is where we met.  We drove over to check it out and I was brought to tears as I watched it burn.  Logan took some pictures with his phone.  In the first one, you can see flames through the chapel window.

In this last one, you can see the water pouring down the steps.  They are pretty sure it was an electrical fire, but aren't positive yet.  Luckily, they were able to get everyone out safely and no one was hurt.  Its hard to imagine that this building is gone.  Every time we go there, I always think about the day that Logan and I met. It is a special building and will be missed.

Updated: You can see more pictures of the fire here  and here.  Video here. And a sad shot of the inside of the chapel, taken by my mother's friend:

So sad! We loved living around the corner from this historic building, taking a turn teaching institute class there from time to time, playing in the snow on the big lawn behind it in the winter. We join with you in mourning the loss.

Very sad! I hope the church does something nice like perhaps rebuilding something using the facade or at least something that resembles the old building. Anything would be better than the Santa Fe model that will likely replace this.

We are sad with you!
