Second Annual Donigard Halloween Party

Last night was our Halloween Party and it was a huge success. Of course, the pictures don't even come close to capturing the full effect, but trust me, it was incredible. So imagine all this stuff, but candle-lit and with spooky music in the background.

You can't see it, but there's a frozen hand in the punch bowl. An oldie, but goodie.

We did a creepy touching box thing (we never could quite come up with a good name for it...) We did Goblin Ears (dried figs), Zombie Eyeballs (balls of tofu), Blood Sucking Leeches (canned mushrooms - probably gross enough on their own that I could have correctly labeled them and it would have been equally disgusting), Witches Liver (slab of Jell-O), Vampire Tongues (canned apricots) and Monster Brains (squished up Jell-O with gummy worms, which people *cough, cough, Adam, cough, cough* picked out and ate through out the evening. Gross.)

I forgot to take a picture of the stairs, but we had orange and purple lights and cut out paper mice as well as a FOG MACHINE. (The most exciting point in the evening was when the fog machine set off the smoke detectors. I was really worried our very old and very paranoid upstairs neighbor would wake up from the alarm and open her door to a mass of smoke and have a heart attack. Luckily that didn't happen. It totally would have put a damper on the evening.)

People seriously stepped it up this year. Here are all the amazing costumes:

Amelia and Barry as Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth from Bones

Shawn and Jhordan as Elliot and E.T. (complete with Reece's Pieces)

Gwen and Andrew as an Avenging Angel and a Fallen Angel

Stewart and Audrey as Captain Hammer and Dr. Horrible

The Forrests as The Forrests (get it?)

Laci as The Octomom and Christian and Berkeley as Curious George and The Man in The Yellow Hat

Dan and Lisa as Sister Wives

Bonnie and Patrick as Juno and Paulie Bleeker

Kristal and Richard as Madonna/Cindy Lauper/80's Groupie (Sorry, I never got the official explanation) and Prince

Peter and Eunice as Margot and Richie Tenenbaum

Courtney and Quinn as a Marathon Runner and a Hardcore Singer

The Nielsons as Live Poultry Fresh Killed

Adam and Marci as Terrorists

The Wangsgards as Egon Spengler, Slimer and Janine from Ghostbusters

You can't tell so much in the picture, but I have turquoise tights and grey heels and was supposed to paint my nails the same turquoise color but ran out of time. (It totally would have tied the whole thing together.)

Here are a couple of more detailed shots of the Proton Pack that I made for Logan's costume. I was quite proud of my craftsmanship. I used lots of random containers, some tubing for fish tanks, glow sticks, a slinky and tons and tons of electrical tape. (I think I ended up using five rolls. Good thing it is wicked cheap.) It doesn't really look much like the real thing, but I think it is pretty incredible and everyone seemed to agree. Notice he also has a PKE meter (made from a stud finder.)

And a standing shot of Soren. He wasn't a fan of the part that went over his head, but you get the idea.

We did a costume contest and it was such a close race. Pretty much everyone had lots of votes in multiple categories. We made a trophy for the Best in Show out of the cup that Logan won last year as Wolverine. The plan is to write the winner's name on it and it gets passed around from year to year. I also made medals for all the winners. I was pretty happy with those too.

Here are the winners:

So we get to keep the awesome trophy we made! We were so impressed with everyone's costumes this year. Thanks to everyone for coming. You've got 364 days to plan your costumes for next year. We've already got ours picked out.

Impressive. I'll have to tell you about the Halloween party that Damon and I went to. It was not our usual crowd and was a very interesting evening. There were some serious costumes at that one, but they were all rock star themed. We didn't quite catch on to that and were the ONLY PEOPLE not dressed for the theme. Oh well.
